“This workshop was WONDERFUL! It was so helpful to talk to Julie and hear her wise and experienced take on so many of the struggles that we go through as parents to little children every day. She has such a graceful way to help us see the impact of our words on our children and how we can shift our thinking and way we speak to really help them be problem solvers and want to cooperate. I highly recommend it!”

Conflict, Competition, Comparisons… Why can’t they just get along?

If you live or work with one or more kids of any age who interact with other kids of any sort (siblings, cousins, playmates, classmates, etc.), this workshop is for you!

We will focus on the perils of comparisons between children, the potential destructiveness of roles and labels, and how they can feed into an atmosphere of conflict and ill-will. Participants will have the opportunity to do hands-on exercises to practice effective strategies that promote harmony and good-will. The emphasis is less on what to do in the moment when kids fight, and more on what we can do outside of the moment to reduce the overall conflict to begin with.

“HOW TO TALK SO KIDS WILL LISTEN TO EACH OTHER” Workshop Series:

Two online workshops that can be taken in any order

Do you wish your kids would get along better with each other? Would you like a more harmonious home? Parents and caregivers need two separate, complementary sets of skills to achieve this goal.

In How To Talk When Kids Fight, Argue, or Bicker, participants will tackle the challenge of how to intervene effectively in the moment when kids are clashing, and help kids acquire the skills to (eventually) resolve their own conflicts without adult interference.

In How To Talk So Kids Will Get Along, participants will learn how to create an atmosphere of goodwill and cooperation that will reduce the number and intensity of fights in the first place. The focus is on what you can do outside of the moments of conflict.

Prerequisite for either workshop: Read Part One of How To Talk When Kids Won’t Listen or Part One of How To Talk So LITTLE Kids Will Listen in advance of the first session.

If you have to miss a session, audio recordings will be available in select workshop series, but you will get the most out of these workshops if you can attend live.

Read on for a detailed description of each workshop!

* Do your kids bicker, argue or fight almost every day… or almost every minute??

* Could you use some tools to improve relations?

* Do you find yourself unable to think of what to say or do in the heat of the moment?

It’s one thing to read a book or watch a parenting video, and quite another to put those “reasonable, common sense” ideas to work in the heat of battle.

If you find yourself threatening, yelling, or just at a loss when the kids are fighting, join me for this interactive, live-online, fun four-week workshop for parents of children ages 4 to 16.

Participants will be asked to bring in the details from a recent conflict — who said what, what was the conflict about, what is the backstory — and we will use role-plays to practice effective strategies to cool tempers and resolve conflicts. You’ll get feedback to help you get better at dealing with the actual conflicts in your home. There will be plenty of time for questions.

Review from a recent workshop participant: “The level of hostility and conflict in my home is down substantially since the workshop! I’m amazed that the kids have been able to come to agreements so quickly. Highly recommend!”

Reunion + Friends workshop (for graduates of any of Julie King's workshops)

Tuesday, April 16, 2024
8:30 to 9:30 pm Eastern / 5:30 to 6:30 pm Pacific
Register HERE.

For graduates of any 4-week workshop with Julie King:

• Have you been slipping back into old habits since the workshop?

• Is it hard to remember the How To Talk tools in the heat of the moment?

• Could you use some new inspiration or strategies for your current challenges-with-kids?

You can choose from two options to attend, the free option and the paid option.

      ~~ Here’s the free option: ~~

1. Bring one story about how you’ve used any How To Talk tool with success, with one (or more) of your children. [Hint: Remember acknowledging feelings with words? Engaging cooperation by giving information? Being playful? Resolving conflicts by using problem solving? Praising by describing what you see? And there are many more!]

2. You agree to invite one or more friends who have not taken a How To Talk workshop. Please invite people who you think could benefit from the experience — maybe a fellow parent, a skeptical spouse, a curious preschool teacher, an involved grandparent, or a devoted nanny.

        ~~ Here’s the paid option: ~~

1. Early bird fee (ends April 9): USD $15 per person or USD $22 per couple.

Regular fee: USD $25 per person or USD $35 per couple.

2. You are encouraged to bring one story about how you’ve used any How To Talk tool with success, with one (or more) of your children.

       ~~ Here’s the plan: ~~

We’ll begin by sharing your stories. For the remainder of the hour, we’ll address the questions and challenges of the group by brainstorming strategies and practicing and reviewing the How To Talk tools.

My goal is to support you in your parenting, while you help me introduce more people to the How To Talk workshops.

Friends-of-graduates are welcome to just observe, or to join in if they wish.
